This is really not a black metal album. Bandcamp has two levels of tags, ones you set at the band level, and additional ones you can add at the release level. So just take the album for what it is. Genre assignment for Natanas is hit or miss as there is variation from release to release, and sometimes, song to song.
I have held off releasing a self titled album for three years now. It has a special meaning to me. This collection of songs in my mind crystallizes the project.
Traveling between Wyoming and Utah inspired this release. National forest and the scars of fire. The abnormally high water line of the lakes. The fatigue and caffeine fueled drives early in the morning before the sun rises. The herds of pronghorn, deer, and wild horses. The people that mean everything to me. Also high on the inspiration list is watching the daily reports of corruption. Of the elites selling our futures out from under us. "Politics can be reduced to two types of people. Those who want to be left alone and those who refuse to leave them alone..."
This release (and the rest of the Natanas catalog) is name your price. Thousands of albums have been downloaded from my Bandcamp. The vast majority typing zero in the price box. The persons who have thru the years tossed a dollar or more at the music -- this album is dedicated to you. Money is not the end goal of Natanas, however, it never fails to put a smile on my face. This release includes the first guest vocals on a Natanas album, by my wife, Aubry, on Clothes For The Demon pt 2. The original version of this song is on the Смертность album (natanas.bandcamp.com/album/cmertnost and original version that predates the album version here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5XuhACgaVU featuring the slightly off kilter drum track which somehow worked better than the album version). Also on Material Existence Blues, by Blind Lemon Jefferson (~80 years after he layed down the vocals, now in the public domain). The sample in Detestable Dirges Tonight is a hundred year old recording of Armenian folk music that I personally find haunting.
